For more than 70 years, volunteers have been at the heart of what we do. Today, their passion and dedication is being recognized with a prestigious King Charles III Coronation Medal.
Each recipient was honoured for their role in helping to improve the heart and brain health people in every community in Canada. This distinguished group represents the strength and diversity of the Heart & Stroke community, including:
- People living with heart disease and stroke
- Community-based fundraisers
- Scientists and researchers
- Medical professionals
- Members of Heart & Stroke’s national board and provincial advisory boards
- Members of Heart & Stroke committees
“I am continuously inspired by our volunteers’ dedication, resilience, knowledge and shared passion for our cause.” said Doug Roth, CEO of Heart & Stroke. “We simply wouldn’t be able to do the work we do without their support — and I am proud that we were able to honour their contributions in such a meaningful way.”
About the King Charles III Coronation Medal
The King Charles III Coronation Medal, administered by the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General, commemorates the May 6, 2023, coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. It is the first Canadian commemorative medal to mark a coronation.
The medals were designed by the Canadian Heraldic Authority and manufactured by the Royal Canadian Mint. It is the first Canadian honour to feature the Canadian Royal Crown as part of its design. The front of the medal displays the King’s effigy, while the reverse displays the royal cypher over the sunburst design of the Canadian coronation emblem.
His Majesty has been a longtime philanthropist, founding 18 of his own charities while serving as a patron of hundreds of organizations over the past few decades.
