Since 1983, Heart & Stroke has supported the annual H.J.M. Barnett Lectureship and Visiting Professorship, which provides a forum where a distinguished clinician or researcher in the field of neurology addresses and discusses with physicians, scientists, and other healthcare providers the clinical and/or research aspects of their particular endeavours.
The lecture is presented on a rotating schedule at each of the six medical schools in Ontario and available for all to view via webcast or archive.

About Dr. Barnett
Dr. Henry J.M. Barnett (1922-2016) was an internationally renowned leader in neuroscience research. He authored hundreds of original publications and is best known for directing many of the most important large, multi-centered clinical trials in stroke, including the first randomized trial to show that Aspirin prevents stroke.
Dr. Barnett was a Companion of the Order of Canada and a member of the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame.
As his Hall of Fame citation says, “He saved and improved the health of countless stroke patients and contributed immensely to the field of neuroscience at a time when few treatments existed for neurological disorders.”
