Who we need
Reporting to our Alberta CEO, we have a rare opportunity for a Vice President, Development who wants to apply their philanthropic insights to develop an impactful strategy to grow Major Gifts in Alberta. We need someone who wants to use their exceptional relationship building and networking skills to build our fundraising from individuals, foundations, and corporations. This is a chance to foster an atmosphere of collaboration as you coach and work side-by-side with the team to achieve over $5 million in annual giving. It’s an opportunity to channel your expertise in development to make an impact on the health of people in Canada by meeting and exceeding revenue goals for Major Donors, Corporate Partners & Legacy Donors in Alberta.

You will own the Major Gifts strategy for Alberta, the deliverables and the oversight of the Major Gifts program, and you will spearhead campaigns on the implementation in Alberta.

You will collaborate closely with internal teams to develop and deliver high quality, customized proposals, and solicitations. You will oversee and personally cultivate, solicit, recognize, and steward key relationships, working in partnership with the Provincial CEO, Provincial Board, and VP, Philanthropy & Campaign, Canada.
Relationships. You want to spearhead stewardship and communication efforts with tailored and meaningful plans for our top donors/partners and prospects. You will enhance the existing pipeline of interested philanthropists and partners using networks, research, staff, and volunteer referrals. You will support Senior Advisors as well as take on direct involvement by travelling around the greater Calgary area and to Edmonton to visit existing donors and prospective donors.
Take on new challenges. You want to apply all of your skills, experience, and knowledge to both grow the donation dollars and the accomplishments of your team. You will develop annual and multi-year plans to achieve goals and objectives; plan the budget and financial projections; optimize opportunities; mitigate challenges. You will provide leadership and expertise to continue to build philanthropy as a core competency of the Foundation and lead the development of a robust pipeline.
Who you are
You are passionate about raising funds for research that will benefit the health of people in Canada. You understand Alberta, the businesses, philanthropists and communities. You know that the approach in Calgary needs to be different from the one you need to take in Edmonton and every area in between. You want to grow your career at a national foundation where you can gain exposure building out Major Gifts. You want a strategic role that blends donor interactions with creating a culture of commitment, passion, and excitement amongst your team.
What you bring:
- The experience and education. You have a relevant Bachelor’s degree and ideally involvement in a professional fundraising association. You have expertise engaging senior volunteers and community leaders in Major Gift prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. With a minimum of 10 years experience managing a fund development budget of $5M per annum, you come with a proven track record in identifying strategic business development opportunities valued at $250K+.

You can build, manage and motivate a team of fundraising professionals and support roles, instilling in them our values to Champion Health, Practice Humility, Embrace Change, Drive Impact, Learn and Grow, and Be Heartfelt.
- The capability. You are a strategic thinker, resourceful and creative. You know how to seize opportunities to develop new and existing possibilities for Major Gift support and partnerships.
The technical skills. You are comfortable with MS Office and a range of databases. You can quickly learn new technologies.
- The communication abilities. You are well spoken with outstanding written and presentation skills. You have an exceptional commitment to fostering donor relationships. You are passionate about collaborating with volunteers, internal partners, and external stakeholders.
