A

If you have any immediate concerns and would like to verify that the canvasser that you spoke with represents Heart & Stroke, please do not hesitate to contact us: By phone at 1-877-882-2582 or by email at monthly@heartandstroke.ca

** Ambassadors are calling back donors at the door as part of a verification process. The number is from 1-866-478-0673.

Q COVID case numbers are increasing across the country. Will you suspend this campaign if cases continue to rise?
A Our door-to-door canvassing campaign is focused on areas where COVID-19 case numbers are lower. We are following the directions, guidance and advice from your provincial government and local public health authorities. We are also carefully monitoring the situation across communities where we are active with this campaign and will suspend the campaign if the situation in the community changes and/or public health authorities provide new public health guidance. Our vendor can also suspend the campaign at any time. Together, both Heart & Stroke and our canvas partner are working together and will make decisions that keep public safety as the priority.
Q Why are you coming to my door for a donation?
A

We need to keep research on course towards the major breakthroughs in Heart and Stroke research.

Your gifts are an investment into the best medical minds in the world who are working tirelessly to reverse heart damage and save the moments we cherish from being taken away too soon.

Your monthly gifts are absolutely vital to provide a steady stream of funding for complex and time-consuming research. Without consistent support from people like you, funding can dry up, and staff may move on to other projects. This leaves the research on hold, and can even set back any progress made.

Q Now that you’re canvassing again, does this mean that you will have in-person events?
A No. Heart & Stroke is not hosting any in-person fundraising events as group fundraising events are a high-risk activity during the pandemic Our fundraising events have moved online (in the case of Jump Rope for Heart, the Manulife Heart & Stroke Ride for Heart and the annual B.C. Gala Dinner) or been cancelled entirely (in the case of the Big Bike).
Q Why is it safe for you to come to my door, but not safe for you to have in-person fundraising events?
A We are following the directions of government and public health officials. Door-to-door canvassing has been deemed a low-risk activity by authorities because it is outdoors, our canvassers wear face masks and will always maintain two metres of physical distance from people. In-person fundraising events are deemed a high-risk activity because they involve groups of people.  Currently all provinces have regulations strictly limiting how many people can gather together in close quarters for a prolonged period, even outside.
Q Why is it safe for these canvassers to come to my door, but your volunteer canvassing campaign has been moved completely online?
A There are some important differences between these two programs. Our door-to-door monthly giving canvass is run by our partner, GlobalFaces Direct. Their staff are screened before beginning each shift for symptoms of COVID-19, something we are unable to implement for our volunteer program. There is also no leave behind material, and donations are processed using a tablet, which is not the case with our volunteer canvassing campaign,. We simply cannot institute the same necessary safety measures in a volunteer-led program and that is why our peer-to-peer canvassing program will be handled completely online.
Q Who is Globalfaces Direct?
A

Globalfaces Direct is a trusted partner of Heart & Stroke.  We work closely with them on a daily basis in order to engage Canadians in conversation about the work of Heart & Stroke and recruit new monthly donors to sustain our work.  All Heart & Stroke canvassers that are recruited to work with Globalfaces Direct receive comprehensive training in direct collaboration with Heart & Stroke, allowing them to speak knowledgeably on behalf of the Heart & Stroke about our mission and fundraising programs.
