heart and stroke canvasser

Face to Face fundraising campaign

Beginning June 14, 2021 — and abiding by all local, provincial and federal public health guidelines — Heart & Stroke canvass for monthly donations in select retail malls and on street corners in several markets, including Vancouver BC and surrounding area, Calgary, Ottawa and Toronto and surrounding area.

This is the first time Heart & Stroke is working with this vendor on a face-to-face campaign. Up Fundraising canvassers will wear Heart & Stroke branded materials to identify themselves, including I.D. badges, lanyards, polo shirts and hats. Mall canvassers will work at Heart & Stroke branded booths.

Up Fundraising follows local, provincial and federal public health protocols to protect both the public and their canvassers.

Q Why is Heart & Stroke canvassing for donations at a time like this/during a pandemic?
The reality is that our cause has never been more urgent. Heart disease and stroke have not gone away during the pandemic, in fact, people living with our conditions are a higher risk of serious complications if they contract COVID-19. They need our help now more than ever.
Heart & Stroke will only canvass in cities where it has been deemed a low-risk activity by public health authorities, and all levels of government. People who canvass for Heart & Stroke gifts are trained and required to follow all local, provincial and federal public health guidelines. Each canvasser wears a face mask, routinely sanitizes their hands, maintains physical distancing, and uses secure, contact-free technology to process donations. Your safety and the safety of our canvassers is paramount
Q Where are you currently canvassing?
A We are currently working with an external partner to canvass for donations in Vancouver and surrounding areas, Calgary, Ottawa and Greater Toronto Area, in local malls and on the street.  We work with these partners because it is the safest and most efficient way to raise funds, while achieving the greatest impact with your gift to beat heart disease and stroke.
Q If COVID case numbers increase in my area, will you suspend this campaign?
A Our canvassing campaign in local malls and on the street, are only in areas where COVID-19 case numbers are lower. We are following the directions, guidance and advice from your provincial government and local public health authorities. We are also carefully monitoring the situation across communities where we are active with this campaign and will suspend the campaign if the situation in the community changes and/or public health authorities provide new public health guidance. Our vendor can also suspend the campaign at any time. Heart & Stroke and our canvass partner are working together and will make decisions that keep public safety as the priority.
Q What precautions are you taking to keep donors and canvassers safe?
A The safety of donors and canvassers is of the utmost importance to us. Canvassers are screened daily for COVID-19. They are trained and required to sanitize their hands and work surfaces routinely, and wear personal protective equipment, such as face masks and gloves, at all times. Each interaction with the public is made from a safe distance, and all donations are processed using secure, contact-free technology.
Q How can I tell if a canvasser is legitimate?
A Our canvassers can be identified by their Heart & Stroke badges. They also wear lanyards, polo shirts, and hats with our logo on it.
Q Why won’t the canvasser accept a cash donation?

For safety reasons, our canvassers do not accept cash donations. All donations are processed contact-free, using your credit card or banking information over secure technology. If you prefer, I can process your donation right now for you, or you can visit our website at www.heartandstroke.ca.

Please also note that the canvassers are only set up to process monthly donations, not one-time gifts. If you wish to make a one-time donation, please visit our website at www.heartandstroke.ca.

Q Why do canvassers use a cell phone/tablet to collect my credit card information? Is it safe?
A The safety of our donors’ information is paramount. All Heart & Stroke donations are processed in a touchless manner, using the latest and most secure technology.
