The Opportunity

The Director, Mission for Ontario provides strategic leadership and management for the effective execution of the national Mission strategy in Ontario including the areas of Government Relations, Research and Health Promotion. The position is accountable for advocating and engaging communities and partnering with health care providers and government to advance the CCVD health of the people of Ontario. The Director will provide strong leadership and management to the Ontario Mission Team and be an active participant with the National Mission Team.

Key responsibilities

Business Planning

  • Participate on the National Mission team and in the development on of the national Mission Plan and priorities
  • Support the implementation of national Mission priorities as identified in the annual plan
  • Lead the development and implementation of the ON Mission Plan and budget ensuring alignment with the national priorities
  • Participate as a member of the Ontario Senior Leadership team to ensure the effective management of the organization including the coordination of Mission, Fund Development and Marketing /Communications plans
  • Provide input and support to the central Development team to assist in presenting to industry, Foundations and individual prospects
  • Work collaboratively with the Development and National Mission team to develop funding proposals for government
  • Provide leadership to the Mission Committee and the Research Advisory Committee of the Ontario Provincial Advisory Board

Relationship Management

  • Develop and broaden relationships with the Ontario and municipal levels of government to achieve Ontario Mission Plan and promote funding opportunities
  • Develop and maintain strong relationship and profile with the Ontario CCVD research community and key institutional research partners
  • Develop and maintain effective communication links with health-care provider associations and regulatory agencies that can assist the Foundation in achieving its mission goals
  • Work with partner organizations to develop common advocacy positions and strategies that further our strategic priorities
  • Build strong and cohesive lateral and cross functional relationships to effectively achieve the Ontario Mission Plan

Human Resource Management

  • Lead the development of a highly effective team, ensuring high standards of delivery, competence and values are maintained and that staff is well supported in fulfilling their accountabilities, developing their skills and achieving their career potential.Specifically:
    • Providing clear direction on business goals and priorities; ensure optimal deployment of resources to achieve business goals
    • Establish team performance plan; build a strong team and develop effective lateral relationships cross functionally
    • Establish performance plan and objectives and review on an ongoing basis; provide coaching and feedback to direct reports
  • As required, recruit skilled talent in support of current and future needs
  • Familiarize and comply with Heart & Stroke policies
  • Provide coaching and development to team members and implement initiatives that effectively inspires loyalty and philanthropy amongst our supporters
  • Demonstrate the values through behaviours
  • Ensure accurate administration of employee related information: absence records, vacation, title, etc/

  • University degree, preferably a post graduate degree, in a health or political science related discipline
  • 8-10 years’ experience in general management with strong track record of developing and implementing successful management and communication strategies
  • Excellent strategic thinking and change management skills
  • Excellent leadership and relationship management building skills with a proven ability to influence others; highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Effective communicator both verbally and in written formats; capable of communicating technical content to audiences at varying levels of knowledge
  • Strong people management experience
  • Strong understanding of government relations and public policy
  • Strong understanding or a desire/ability to acquire technical knowledge of the scientific and research issues associated with heart disease and stroke
