Lead Heart and Stroke Ontario to greater success. Build on the momentum underway within Heart and Stroke Canada, with a strong leadership team and the investments undertaken to achieve unification.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC) is Canada’s most widely recognized and trusted authority on cardiovascular health. Over the last 60 years, it has invested more than $1.45 billion in heart and stroke research, making it the largest contributor to such activities in Canada after the federal government. In that time, the death rate from heart disease and stroke has declined by more than 75 per cent. The Foundation’s health promotion and advocacy programs across the country are saving lives every day, and its employees, volunteers, donors and world-class researchers are working collaboratively with a shared vision of “healthy lives free of heart disease and stroke. Together, we will make it happen.” This is an exciting time for a new leader in Ontario to join the team!

As Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Ontario, you will provide leadership to a dedicated team of employees and volunteers for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada in Ontario, all working collaboratively in a highly matrixed environment. You will contribute to the Heart and Stroke strategy by bringing strategic insights to the planning process and then moving the strategy forward by aligning and leading the implementation of provincial plans to support the overall strategic direction. As CEO, Ontario, you will serve as chief spokesperson and ambassador for the organization in Ontario, and champion fund development in the province and for the Foundation as a whole.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and as a member of the executive and Canadian leadership teams, you will be accountable for the successful implementation of the national, provincial and community goals and objectives of the strategic plan in Ontario. With a thoughtful, reflective leadership style, you will engage and build a strong and vibrant Provincial Advisory Board to advance the mission of the Foundation, develop strong relationships with volunteers and provincial stakeholders, and oversee the implementation of national programs in the province, providing expertise and guidance on the provincial environment and context.

A results-oriented visionary, mentor and motivator, you will lead, coach, engage and develop a high-performing provincial team, and work collaboratively with communities, the Provincial Advisory Board, and other stakeholders, including the research community, universities, provincial and local governments, and other foundations and organizations, to friend-raise, fundraise and achieve the strategic plan.

HSFC is seeking an energetic CEO (Ontario) who is highly ethical, inclusive, persuasive, and politically astute, a senior manager who is passionate about the Heart and Stroke mission, comfortable leading and managing change, and eager to work collaboratively on cross-Canada teams. As a leader, you exhibit a unique combination of self-confidence and humility, enabling you to quickly win trust and credibility, rally others around a shared vision, and deliver planned results.

While a bachelor’s or higher degree in a relevant discipline is expected, most important is your proven success in leading a large, complex, matrixed public sector, not-for-profit or charitable organization, or combined private and public sector experience. You have a proven track record of creating and nurturing a collegial culture dedicated to a common mission, values, mutual respect, accountability and superior impact, and of developing friends, followers, supporters, donors and partners to grow revenue. You are known as a relationship builder, networking with government officials to drive policy and system change, and can ably expand existing alliances as well as advocate to the Government of Ontario, elected officials and senior civil servant leaders while supporting the National office team’s efforts in advocating with the Government of Canada to advance the mission.
