Craft For Heart Refreshment Lead - Thunder Bay

Be a Leader on the Craft for Heart Committee! 


The Heart and Stroke Foundation, a volunteer-based health charity, leads in eliminating heart disease and stroke and reducing their impact through the advancement of research and its application, the promotion of healthy living, and advocacy. 

As the Craft For Heart Refreshment Lead, you will hold a leadership role on the Craft For Heart Committee. Craft For Heart is a signature Heart & Stroke fundraising event in Thunder Bay. 

The 2018 event will occur on Saturday, February 3.

You will secure and coordinate sponsors who will donate meals and/ or snacks for 100+ event participants.

Primary responsibilities 
  • Provide expertise, support, and leadership to the 2018 Craft for Heart event as a key Committee Member.
  • Participate in Craft for Heart Committee phone meetings. Meeting schedule is flexible and will be determined in conjunction with Area Manager and other Committee members.  
  • Act as a front-line fundraiser for Heart & Stroke: secure one or more sponsors to provide lunch, dinner, and snacks for 100+ event attendees.
  • Manage a database of contacts, requests and outcomes.
  • Coordinate refreshment schedule, menu, and refreshment details for event day.
  • Effectively organize and communicate refreshment details to Area Manager and other Committee members.
  • Role model leadership and capacity building by engaging with personal networks.

This is position that can be conducted either from the Area Office or from home.

5-10 hours/ month (September – February 2018)

Successful candidate is encouraged to volunteer on event day (Saturday, February 3). Lunch, dinner, snacks and breaks on event day will be provided.

Qualities you’ll need for this role:
  • Proven ability to build a strong rapport with community influencers, local businesses, or corporate donors.
  • Exceptional communication skills: excellent phone manner and email aptitude.
  • Detail oriented, organized, and focused.
  • A willingness to learn and follow marketing and brand guidelines.
  • Comfortable on the computer (PC environment): familiar with MS Excel, MS Word, online search engines, and email.
  • Experience facilitating cooperation and achieving results.
  • Able to follow written and spoken instructions accurately.
  • Experience in fundraising or event organization is an asset.
